We built Internet Map because the internet forgot how to feel finite. Everything important became a feed - infinite scroll, infinite inventory, infinite “create account.” Feeds are extraordinary for distribution and terrible for place. Place needs edges. Edges create neighborhoods. Neighborhoods create stories.
So we drew edges: 1,000 by 1,000. One million squares. No quiet raising of the cap when sales are good. A public map you can pan. Profiles you can share. Plans that change footprint. Early seats that reward the first twenty-five humans who believed a weird grid could matter.
The thesis in four lines
- Scarcity should be visible, not only contractual.
- Ownership needs a public page, not only a receipt email.
- Proximity should be meaningful - center vs edge.
- Verification and Early badges make status readable at a glance.
Influences (with credit)
The Million Dollar Homepage proved a scarce grid can become a cultural event. GeoGuessr proved people will explore maps for fun. Domains proved ownership markets persist. Indie hacker culture proved founders love public building. Internet Map sits at the intersection - without pretending to be a blockchain L2 or an ad exchange.
What we’re optimizing for
Clarity over cosmogony. A new user should understand the product in thirty seconds: claim a square, show up on the map, share /@handle. Power users get plot choice, larger footprints, team fields, analytics. We’d rather ship the honest version of a feature than a fake marketplace of attention.
What we refuse
- Inflating the grid when it’s convenient.
- Selling “homepage takeover” vapor.
- Forcing crypto wallets to claim a square.
- Turning profiles into spammy page builders.
How we’ll know it’s working
Neighbors appear near HQ. People tweet coordinates without us asking. Verified companies sit beside weird indie tools and it looks like the actual internet. Early badges become a recognizable signal. Paid plans renew because the address still matters - not because we trapped a card on file with dark patterns.
