Prime Center explained: why center squares matter on Internet Map

Open Internet Map and your camera tends to land near the middle. That’s intentional. Internet Map HQ occupies a landmark footprint at the center of the 1000×1000 grid. Around it sits Prime Center - the district where smaller plans are auto-placed and where most launch screenshots are born. This post explains the geography, the product rules, and how to think about “center distance” in your dashboard without mystical nonsense.

The mental model

Cities have downtowns because humans navigate from landmarks. Our landmark is HQ. Prime Center is downtown. The outer map is countryside - fully claimable, sometimes perfect for huge Enterprise plots or troll coordinates, less ideal if you want accidental foot traffic from people zooming the default view.

Auto-placement vs choose-plot

• Personal & Startup - 1×1 auto-assigned into open Prime Center cells.
• Business - 2×2, you drag a plot (full map allowed).
• Enterprise - 3×3, you drag a plot (full map allowed).

Choose-plot plans can still sit in Prime Center if the footprint fits. That’s how you get the “we hug HQ” screenshots. Collision detection prevents stacking on claimed cells; if your dream plot is taken, nudge or resize expectations.

Center distance KPI

The dashboard shows distance from map center (around 500,500). Lower numbers mean closer to HQ. It’s a fun, honest metric - not a PageRank. Use it for storytelling (“distance 12”) not for arguing you’re objectively better than a square at distance 40.

Aesthetic tips for center plots

• Leave visual breathing room if you’re 3×3 - don’t kiss HQ unless you mean it.
• Use high-contrast tile art; center gets viewed zoomed out more often.
• Verify domains so the dense center doesn’t look like a spam cluster.

It’s finite. Early and early-paid claims will pack the middle first. That’s the point. Outer rings remain available longer - different vibe, still valid ownership.
